AKKAD, a rock band from a small town in Ukraine, releases an album recorded twenty years ago.

AKKAD formed in 2005 in Bar, a town of twenty thousand people in central Ukraine, when Oleg Pylypenko was seventeen. In 2006 the band recorded twelve songs at Air Force Studio in Vinnytsia, played Kyiv’s Maidan Nezalezhnosti on the same bill as Skryabin and Mandry, took part in the Chervona Ruta festival and won the audience vote at Perlyny Sezonu in Zaporizhzhia. The album never came out: the CDs were handed to people at concerts. In 2026 the songs are released for the first time, in two versions at once.

AKKAD formed in 2005 in Bar, a small town in the Vinnytsia region of central Ukraine. Every song was written by Oleg Pylypenko between the ages of sixteen and eighteen. Through the autumn of 2005 and the spring of 2006 the band recorded twelve songs at Air Force Studio in Vinnytsia with engineer Dmytro Zaichuk. That summer came Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv, the Perlyny Sezonu festival in Zaporizhzhia where the band won the audience vote — after which their songs were sent to Ukrainian radio stations by the promotion company Na Vsi 100 — the Chervona Ruta festival, and shows in Krolevets, Lutsk and Ternopil. The album was never released. The CDs were handed out at concerts and the songs stayed on forums.
In 2026 Oleg Pylypenko releases those recordings himself, on his own label Flavatars, in two versions at once: “2006”, the original recordings of that line-up, newly mixed and mastered, and “2026”, a rebuilt version of the same twelve songs. The band cannot gather in a studio — one of the musicians serves in the army, three remain in Ukraine, and Oleg lives abroad — so the two albums stand side by side instead of a reunion.
